There is a cachet surrounding gin that no other light liquor commands. It is an intriguing spirit most closely associated with sophistication and all that is elegant. To explain gin's nearly universal appeal, aficionados point to its light body, engaging flavor and alluring aroma.

Today's martini-starved consumers demand that you carry a broader sampling of gins on your back bar. If you're not completely familiar with the new contestants that have entered the field, here's a brief review.

Cascade Mountain Gin - Handcrafted at the Bendistillery in Bend, Ore., Cascade Mountain Gin is micro-distilled in the distillery's copper alembic still from grain and locally grown juniper berries. In addition to juniper, Bendis uses a proprietary mix of botanicals indigenous to the Northwest. The botanicals are mixed with neutral grain spirits and Cascade Mountain lake water, then distilled in small 250-gallon batches. The sensational, 95-proof gin is crisp and brimming with flavor.
